5 Questions With: Michael McQuaid [SXSW Edition]

We spoke with Michael McQuaid about his first timeperforming at South By Southwest, new music, and the best advice he’s received!

Check out our interview with him below!

This was your first time performing at South By Southwest. Did you guys prepare differently for South By versus playing any other show you would normally play at?
A little bit, yes.  I played an acoustic set this time around with a good friend of mine on the keys. It was definitely a great opportunity to play and I love being in Austin!

You recently did an Usher cover set at a show, which is pretty awesome. If you had to cover one song at every show for the rest of your life, what song would it be and why?
Man, that was one of the most fun shows I’ve played! The crowd was singing along to every word. We had a great time. It would probably be “Let It Burn”. My favorite Usher song!

Being that South By Southwest is filled with tons of incredible acts, were you excited to catch any artists in particular? Did you stumble across any new
artists that you are now a fan of?
Yes! I went to Willie Nelson’s Ranch and watched one of Sent from my iPhone

You released your last EP in August of 2014. Is there any new music in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
Of course! I’ve been writing like crazy. I’ve been meeting with several producer as well. It’s going to be like nothing you’ve ever heard. I’ve been inspired by so much music lately. I can’t wait to put out new stuff!

What is the best advice that anyone has given you in regards to performing and pursuing music?
As far as pursuing music, It’s been don’t take no for an answer. You really have to be a go getter in this industry. There are lots of discouraging moments but you gotta just keep going because this is what you love!

And performing, you have to put yourself in that mindset whether the song be happy or sad and perform your little heart out!
